Wood Place Library

Location: One block north of the stop light in California, Missouri (right across the street from City Hall) at 501 South Oak Street.

Hours:  Opening Monday-Friday at 10 a.m. each day. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday closing time is 5 :00 pm. On Tuesday and Thursday evening the library is open until 8:00 pm.  Saturday hours are 9:00 am-1:00 pm.

Getting a Library Card: Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place serves the people of Moniteau County. Those who live inside the city limits of California and those who live in the Western Library District of Moniteau County which includes Clarksburg, Fortuna, Latham and Tipton pay county library taxes. These residents may obtain free library cards to use at Moniteau County Library @ Wood Place with proof of residency or payment receipt of Moniteau County library taxes. Click here for a library card application. Simply print, fill out, and bring to the library to receive your card.

Those who live outside the city of California in the Eastern Library District of Moniteau County including Jamestown, High Point, McGirk and Centertown may purchase library cards for an annual fee. The annual fee for all members in a household is $35.00. It is good for twelve months, regardless of when you join.  Residents of surrounding counties may also purchase memberships at the above rate. A special summer card for children who wish to participate in the Summer Reading Program is available for $5.00 per household.  It is good May 15-August 15.  If you have questions about any of this information, you can

Public Access Computers: The library has 14 state of the art public access computers for patrons to use. They are equipped with Microsoft Office Suite and high speed internet service. All computers are connected to a printer which can print black & white or color pages. There is a charge of 25¢/page for B & W printing and $1.00/page for color printing. A daily guest computer pass is available for $1/day for non-patrons.

The library also has two early literacy stations that provide educational games appropriate for pre-readers and beginning readers. One of the stations is bi-lingual (English and Spanish) and both are located in the children’s area.

WiFi Connection: You are welcome to visit the library with your laptop and use our wi-fi connection free of charge.

The library’s winter weather policy: The library will remain open if at all possible, however, if winter weather and poor road conditions require closing it will be announced on KRLL, 1420 AM.  As a guide, if the California R-1 School District closes due to bad weather, the library will usually be closed.  However, the library may choose to be open if conditions in town allow.
